Being a Missionary
  • I will build relationships with people of a different ethnic or cultural background
    • Volunteer at a bilingual church
    • Seek out missionary kids, third-culture kids, and international students and ask them about their culture
    • Consider one of the many study-abroad options through Asbury
  • I will become actively involved in outreach within my local community
    • Get involved in the student-led ministries of CSA
    • Join other Asbury students to make a difference in the community during Reach Out events
      • March 6th and April 3rd are the next two Reach Out dates

  • I will serve on a short-term mission trip
    • Research summer, spring break, and Christmas break mission trips that go out from Asbury
      • This year Asbury has or will send out
        2 - Christmas break teams
        12 - Spring Break teams
        4 - Summer Teams
    • Many organizations offer longer-term trips, measured in months and not weeks, to get a better feel for a culture and a ministry
  • I will serve as a full-time missionary sometime in the future
    • Begin to contact mission agencies now!
    • Take opportunities to speak with current missionaries
    • Don't wait! Learn, Pray, and mobilize now!
    • Take classes that would be helpful to your ministry (find out about courses recommended by missionaries and sending agencies)
    • Don't be derailed by the common obstacles of going - Debt, Dating, Family, and Support Raising
  • I will be open , available, and prepared to advance the Great Commission anywhere, at any time, and in any way that God calls me
    • Look for opportunities for serving now (see local outreach section above)
    • Make financially responsible decisions - Don't let debt keep you from being available
The Great Commission Congress is a yearly missions emphasis week at Asbury College
